Accumulator Builder
Hello,
I noticed this morning that there's ice built up on my heat pump's accumulator canister. The ambient temperature is -10 C. The coil is NOT frozen - there's absolutely no ice on it and the heat pump seems to be defrosting normally (I can hear it sometimes and see vapour rising from it). Its performance is also fine - the heat output is normal. In fact, the only reason I noticed the ice is that it's thick enough to touch the basepan of the heat pump, which is transmitting some vibrations from the accumulator and causing a noise that I can hear when standing beside the heat pump.
Is ice build-up on the accumulator normal? Should the defrost interval be decreased (it's currently set to 90 minutes)?
